Justin

This online memorial was created in loving memory of Justin Smith, whose life story is told throughout this memorial website. Please sign Justin 's guest book and let us know you came to visit. We will remember Justin forever.

Justin was born June 25, 1984 in Springfield, IL.  He graduated from New Berlin High School in 2002 and went on to graduate from Universal Technical Institute in 2003.  He worked for Crossroads Truck Equipment for 3 years and worked for Drake Scruggs for 2 years.  He is survived by his daughter Lilly, mom-Patti O'Dell, stepfather-John, his dad- Fred Smith, his brother- Mike, stepsister -Tara and sister Chelsea.  He was a wonderful son, daddy and brother.

On August 17, 2008 Justin was suddenly taken from us.  He was in a car accident and was not wearing his seatbelt.  He was thrown from his truck.  He had internal injuries and underwent surgery. As hard as they tried the doctors were unable to stop the bleeding and his heart stopped.

Justin's good friend Brad went out to the accident site that morning and found the CD of the song you hear playing.  It was thrown out of Justin's truck and every song on the CD skipped except for this one, which we played at his funeral.  I believe that was his way of choosing the music for his funeral.

This was one of Justin's favorite bands, Cross Canadian Ragweed.  He told me "mom you would really like them". And he was right, I do.  In June 2009 they came to New Berlin to do a concert.  I requested they play this song for him in his home town and they did.

Justin had a big heart and loved everyone.  He would do anything for anyone.  He didn't let things get to him too much.  He was pretty easy going and happy.

When Justin was in his early teens, he worried about his mom driving in bad weather during the winter.  So he got a bag and filled it with a blanket, a flashlight, a candle and some matches and put it in her car, just in case.

Justin loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, swimming, scuba diving, working on cars, hanging out in the garage or barn with his friends or just sitting around a camp fire.  He played football all four years in high school.  He also loved playing the guitar.

He got his first guitar when he was 12 years old. He was so happy when he got that guitar.  He became really good at playing, although he could not read music, he played by ear.  His last Christmas here on earth he bought his daughter, Lilly, a pink guitar with a purple strap. It was so cute when he would play the guitar and Lilly would sit with him and sing.

I was so proud of him when he decided to become baptized in March of 2007.  He attended classes with the pastor for a few months and then decided to be baptized.  I know he is now in heaven with Jesus, watching over us every day.
